Chippewa Falls Senior Portraits Andrew Samplawski Photography

Jarrod | Chippewa Falls Senior Session

Today’s featured senior is Jarrod! I met up with Jarrod for a senior portrait session in and around the Chippewa Falls area.

Jarrod opted not to have a meet and greet ahead of our senior portrait session, so I met him for the first time on the day of the shoot.  I loved getting to spend time with him and get to know him. For a gentleman who didn’t really want to take pictures – he rocked his session and had some great portraits created.

Chippewa Falls Senior Photography

Every senior and every senior session is different. So we took our time wandering around Chippewa Falls taking pictures. These portraits ranged from more serious pictures to some more fun shots, where Jarrod’s smile really lit up the whole image. Jarrod also admitted having a senior session was more fun than he thought it would be. As a senior photographer, that’s always my goal! I want you to have fun during your photography session!

Jarrod says the most enjoyable thing about high school was being able to hang out with his friends. While growing up, he wanted to be a pilot because he thought that would be cool. But now, he is working towards a career in architecture or mechanical engineering. He likes to design things and see them built. He plans to attend the Milwaukee School of Engineering here in Wisconsin in pursuit of that goal.

While his favorite color is black, he wore a few different colors during his portrait session as well as a sharp white button down for a more professional look.

Thank you, Jarrod, for asking me to be your senior portrait photographer. I am sure you’ll build and design great things in your future and I wish you the best of luck at MSOE!

Destination Wedding Trash-the-Dress

After Tiffini and Dan’s destination wedding in Mexico, I had an opportunity to meet up with them for a post-wedding day underwater Trash-the-dresss mini-session. When we met up at the resort, I asked if they were down for doing some underwater pictures in the pool. At first, they were a little bit hesitant, but they decided to trust me and I am thrilled at the resulting images.

Underwater Trash-the-Dress Session

Tiffini put on her wedding dress and Dan put on a button up and we headed out on a post-wedding adventure to capture some moments of the two of them—now as husband and wife. As a wedding photographer, I am always after creative, unique ways to create memories and moments for my couples in their photography. So, when Tiffini and Dan agreed to some underwater images, I knew it was going to be a session to remember.

We discussed what to expect and made a plan as to what we would try to accomplish and agreed on ways to communicate under the water using hand signals. Because a wedding gown can get very heavy when it gets wet, it was important for us to plan beforehand in order to keep Tiffini safe and comfortable. I’ve done a number of these underwater sessions and every time it’s a blast. It’s something unique… something different… and something that very few photographers do. I’m one of those photographers that chases after unique and different ideas to create jaw dropping moments. But I wouldn’t be able to do it without the trust of my couples. I’m always thankful that my couples put their trust in me to deliver gorgeous, creative wedding photography.

My favorite moment was the image of the couple as they jumped into the water. It was a great capture, a one-time shot. Too early and the joy and excitement wouldn’t have been there. Too late and they would have been in the water.  I got them at just the right moment, with smiles of giddy glee as they jumped into the water.  Just like that moment when they “took the plunge” and said “I do,” they had such an amazing look of exhilaration in their eyes. We came, we saw, we conquered.

I loved the way this mini-session turned out. Every single image is filled with grace and drama. I chose to share most of these photos in black and to highlight the emotions, movement and striking imagery. Black and white images are liberating, because it’s just a single moment captured in time. The love Dan and Tiffini have for one another is absolutely beautiful.

Thank you so much, Dan and Tiffini for trusting me. I am thrilled with the images from your underwater mini-session. I can’t wait to share your destination wedding images in an upcoming post!

Danielle | North High School Senior Session

It’s no wonder that Danielle is our FEATURED senior for this week’s blog, because she absolutely rocked out her senior session.

Danielle is a senior at North High School. She has a fun, outgoing personality that made it easy for me to capture those huge smiles of hers. She’s got a great sense of humor, too. It made the session enjoyable not only for her but for me as well.

It was a gorgeous day in Chippewa Valley, with perfect weather for our senior session. The beautiful weather allowed us to really let loose and have some fun. After all, who doesn’t love getting ice cream in between heat waves? We went to Olson’s Ice Cream in the Chippewa Falls area, which was the perfect treat on a warm and sunny day.

We got a little bit of everything in this session, from the eclectic downtown landscape to the country roads and fields. Danielle absolutely rocked everything I threw at her!

Last but not least, I couldn’t blog about Danielle’s session without mentioning the fact that we got some pretty awesome images with her and her family’s Hummer. I love it when I get seniors who bring something personal to them and their families!

Danielle, thanks for an amazing session. Your epic, fun personality is the reason I wanted to feature you this week on my blog!

Two Harbors engagement andrew samplawski photography

Anthony & McKenzie | Two Harbors Engagement Session

Two Harbors engagement andrew samplawski photography

I met up with Anthony and McKenzie for a fun engagement session in Two Harbors, Minnesota, before their wedding next year.

While we hung out during the session, Anthony and McKenzie told me their love story and how it related to the locations they’d chosen for their engagement session. Anthony proposed in the Grand Teton Mountains, so they wanted to have that same outdoors-y imagery in their session. Two Harbors offered the perfect rustic backdrop for their winter engagement session.

There were so many opportunities during the session to capture that feeling for them. We grabbed some family pictures with their dog before we went to a private cove off of Lake Superior, where the ice formations on the cliffs and rocks were stunning. We were then able to start a campfire and end the day in their family cabin, cozy and warm. I love when couples are creative with their engagement sessions. Not only does it make the session more personal, but it’s also great to keep my creative juices flowing.

In addition to some beautiful backdrops, I was also spoiled with a fun, competitive couple. Throughout the session, Anthony and McKenzie spent most of their time laughing with each other and trading one-liners. And of course, I couldn’t forget their jumping high-fives. These two really were up for anything, and that made the whole session not only more enjoyable for me but gave them the chance to make fond memories before their wedding.

McKenzie & Anthony, thank you for asking me to be your engagement photographer. I’m so glad that I got to hear your love story and spend time with you, and I can’t wait for your wedding next year! Read more

Metropolis Skybox Wedding Andrew Samplawski Photography

Mikey & Kate | Metropolis Skybox Wedding

Mikey and Kate were married on August 26th, with a ceremony and reception at the Metropolis Skybox.

My second shooter, Jeff, and I started out the morning documenting the getting ready process. The bride and bridesmaids were at the Metropolis in the Dulce Bridal Suite, and while we were photographing them, they busted out a full-fledged pillow fight. Then, just to keep things interesting, we had to duck outside in between the rain showers to get pictures of Mikey and his groomsmen too.

After a beautiful ceremony, we moved around Eau Claire for wedding portraits. Despite the rain, Mikey and Kate were real troopers—funny and goofy the whole time—as we went around Phoenix Park and other locations. The wedding party, too, was hilarious as they photobombed pictures and enjoyed cocktails.

We headed back to Metropolis for the grand entrance and then some cake cutting—which was unlike any I’d ever seen. The cutlery wasn’t out for the cake cutting, so Kate and Mikey improvised by using their hands. It was hilarious—and delicious! Baking Memories in Menomonie really did a good job with their desserts!

I also have to praise All Occasions DJ Service for providing quality entertainment. The dance floor was constantly packed, and DJ Paul made sure to keep everyone entertained. In particular, the DJ’s scavenger hunt was hilarious. Everyone was sooo competitive, but they all managed to have a great time.

Of course, for as much fun as everyone had, there were also some truly touching moments. Kate and Mikey’s son, Brayden, played the piano with his grandma for a special song to his parents, and Kate’s brother put in a $100 bill to see the two of them dance together as he watched from the edge of the dance floor. Seeing him dance with her from his mobile wheelchair was absolutely amazing. No matter what, no limitations should stop you from what you want to do in life.

Kate & Mikey, thank you for having us be part of your special day. And thank you to the staff at the Metropolis and All Occasions DJ for an amazing day.

Hyatt Regency, Maui Wedding, Andrew Samplawski Photography

Laura & Candice l Hyatt Regency Maui Wedding

Hyatt Regency, Maui Wedding, Andrew Samplawski Photography

Laura and Candice were married on January 12 with an amazing destination ceremony at the Hyatt Regency in Maui, Hawaii. It was absolutely incredible to be able to capture their breathtaking wedding ceremony in a setting that was truly the definition of paradise!!

The morning of the wedding, Laura and Candice both had their hair and makeup done at the resort salon. Once they were ready, they had a first look in one of the stunning gardens that surround the Hyatt. Laura and Candice are so very much in love, and they both had the most beautiful smiles. They exchanged notes and gifts, then we took portraits around the property. Their matching bouquets from My Flower Shop were gorgeous and were the perfect punch of color.

Their wedding ceremony took place in the Swan Garden, which has a huge, sparkling pond and bridge. There were four graceful swans in attendance for the ceremony: three white and one black. The way they floated through the water was majestic. The ceremony took place under a Hawaiian arch. The Hawaiian officiant blew a conch horn to announce when each of the brides entered. The entrance of each bride was incredible. The sound of the conch horn echoed between the resort buildings and it was so peaceful. Each bride walked down the winding path, weaving through the lush garden before greeting each other under the arch. Read more
