Preserve Your Photos

Lately, I’ve been giving advice for how to prepare and what to do for photography sessions, but this time, I’d like to speak to what happens after. When you get those pictures from your portrait session, after the initial excitement of seeing everything, what do you do to preserve those images so you can still look back on them for years to come?

Preserve your Images in Albums or Scrapbooks

One of the most obvious answers to how to preserve your images is to have an album or scrapbook made. This way, you have physical copies of the pictures that will last beyond any technology or online database that might run out of storage or go out of operation. After all, remember floppy discs? Physical albums are a tried and true method.

Preserve your Images in Wall Art or Frames

Another obvious answer is to get your photos printed out and put in picture frames or made into wall art. This is especially true for those family pictures, those senior portraits—the images you want to hang up for a daily reminder of the unity and love in your home. Again, since these are physical copies, these will outlast tech that might go out of date. I’ve spoken about wall art before, so if you’re looking for advice on how to find the right image size for your living room, hallway, or bedroom, you can check out that blog post as well. Read more

Ashley & Brandon | Autumn Engagement Session

I met up with Ashley and Brandon this fall for an autumn engagement session in the Eau Claire area.

It was the perfect fall day for an engagement session… couldn’t have asked for a better day! The colors were at their prime, and the surroundings looked like something out of a catalog. I always love when Mother Nature puts on a show like this; it makes the sessions even more beautiful.

Of course, this fall explosion also perfectly exemplified who Ashley and Brandon are as people. They love being outdoors together and consider each other to be their partners in crime. With that kind of adventurous spirit and nature-loving sense meshing so well with my subjects’ passions, what more could you ask for as a photographer? They were totally at home outside, and totally at home with each other.

I love couples like this who don’t have to be prompted to be affectionate with one another. Brandon could hardly keep from kissing Ashley and showing his love for her, and Ashley was right there with him, flirting with him and generally being an excited bride-to-be. Whether it was cheek kisses or dips, they were up for anything.

I particularly like the images of the two of them kissing with the light shining through the trees just right. Moments like that only happen when everything lines up just so—so when I saw it, I knew I had to get that light!

Brandon & Ashley, thank you for trekking out through the woods with me to get these amazing engagement images. I am so excited for you to be married next year and hope that your love only continues to grow.

Bride | Behind the Scenes with Andrew

Happy Saturday as I write this from Duluth, MN as I’m doing a 4 day tour that started on Thursday around WI & MN photography a number of amazing engaged couples and sweetheart photo sessions.

I just wanted to share a little love this morning of a recent bride I photographed while I was in St Louis, MO. Traveling at times as a wedding photographer based out of Eau Claire, WI – I always don’t have the capabilities of sight seeing shall I say to scope out the wedding venue or reception venue prior to the wedding day. Being a wedding photographer, it’s always fun and exciting to photograph in new locations because I just never know what I’m walking in to which excites me at every wedding day. Dark lighting, bright lighting, colored lighting, lots of people, little ideal locations or spots, etc… all accounts should be considered – and being the professional I am always looking for most ideal locations for my clients to create wedding portraits such as this one.
