Emily and Joe were married on January 5 with a ceremony and reception at the Enchanted Barn in Hillsdale, Wisconsin.
A Winter Wedding at the Enchanted Barn
Arriving the morning of the wedding, my second shooter, Jeff and I arrived at the Enchanted Barn to find the ladies getting their hair and makeup finished by Jade from Touch of Class Salon in Cornell, Wisconsin. Emily started out the day a little nervous, but when her nerves were calmed, it was a pretty good morning! Some mimosas were mixed, and the wedding party enjoyed some pre-wedding snacks. The guys were already dressed when we arrived. They got ready at the Grand Shanty, right on the property, making it easy for the gentlemen to get dressed.
Lacy from Allure Event Florals did an amazing job with the florals. She also did the interior decorating for the barn which was absolutely gorgeous. We photographed the guys outside in the bright sunshine next to the glass barn. We did some individual shots and then doubled back to meet up with Emily who was getting into her gown.
Emily decided to do a big reveal for her bridesmaids once she was in her gown. She looked absolutely stunning, and it was so much fun to capture the reactions of her bridesmaids when we opened the big French doors in the dressing room. We did some pictures with all of the girls together at the altar.
The barn was impeccably decorated but was also well insulated and very warm, keeping the chilly Wisconsin weather outside. It was very comfortable despite our lovely winter weather, especially considering the Enchanted Barn was built in the 1800s. The ceremony was very elegant. Emily, in her beautiful gown, was escorted down the aisle by both her father and stepfather. When Joe saw her for the first time it was such a touching and emotional moment. I’m so pleased we were able to capture his reaction.
After the conclusion of the ceremony, we were able to capture some great, fun group and family portraits while friends and family enjoyed cocktails downstairs. The staff from The Enchanted Barn flipped the upstairs area over from the ceremony over to a dinner setting. JD from Ignite Lighting and Entertainment projected the absolutely stunning lighting design. He projected light onto onto the barn ceiling and walls as well as pin lights directed onto the centerpieces. The coloring was a gorgeous way to tie in with the rich colors in the centerpieces. It truly made the Enchanted Barn live up to its name! The staff from Bistro 63 set up each place setting with a salad course and then the guests were invited upstairs to the transformed upstairs area for dinner.
Toasts took place from both fathers and members of the wedding party. Dinner was served and once everyone was fed they sent everyone BACK downstairs for an amazing array of desserts from Dessert First. There were cake pops that were a great hit, freshly baked cookies, chocolate covered oreos and of course some amazing cupcakes. The Enchanted Barn staff flipped the upstairs area yet again, transforming it into a dance floor for the reception! It was amazing to see how this team worked together to make everything happen in a single location.
Emily and Joe shared their first dance and then they shared parent dances. Emily danced with both her father and stepfather and Joe danced with his mother. During the reception there were also a few touching specialty dances, including an anniversary dance for the bride’s mother. JD was awesome at keeping the dance floor filled. It was a great time.
The most memorable part of the day, for me, was working with this great group of individuals. From going outside in their beautiful dresses and braving the fresh snow, with the girls in their Sorel Boots with fur wraps to the candid shots in the glass barn and the reception, it was just a wonderful time. It was awesome working with the bridal party, their families, the amazing team at Enchanted Barn, and JD’s artistry with lights and music. Overall it was a beautiful wedding day. As a wedding photographer, it means a lot to be able to capture these moments. Jeff and I were are thankful to the bride and groom for asking us to be a part of this special day.
