Ann and Tressie were married on June 30th with a ceremony and reception at the Barn on Stoney Hill in Chippewa County, Wisconsin. When I met these two during their engagement session in Eau Claire, I knew their wedding day would be amazing. These two ladies have such great personalities and their love is so easy to capture. I was so excited to be their wedding photographer for their same sex wedding.
Wisconsin Same-Sex Wedding Photography
The day of the wedding, we started out hair and makeup in the morning at Tressie’s aunt’s house. Alberto was my second shooter and Sara was our photography assistant for the day. The home was beautiful, filled with light, and we chose to do a first look on the beautiful staircase. After that first look, we took some formal wedding portraits around the property of the brides. Then we traveled over to the Leine Lodge in Chippewa Falls. We spent some time there relaxing and preparing for the day to come. The wedding party joined us and then everyone continued over to The Barn on Stoney Hill.
It was a beautiful hot day but there was a constant reminder that in Wisconsin, late June also usually means summer storms. Those storm clouds threatened us all day, but luckily, the rain never impacted our wedding photography. And besides, rain on you wedding day signifies good luck, right?
Their ceremony took place in the field across the street from the barn. The field had a stunning overlook of the rolling hills. Tressie was walked down the aisle by her dad down to a beautiful arch where the brides said their “I do’s.” The ceremony was officiated by their good friend, Bubba, which was a wonderful way to have friends involved in the ceremony. After the ceremony, we did some family portraits and wedding pictures outside.
Then, we all travelled into Cornell to do some bar hopping. We celebrated their same sex marriage at the bars downtown, taking pictures in the middle of the street, enjoying time with friends, and having a great time. We were able to find a fireworks stand that sold colored smoke. To celebrate LGBTQ pride, we got smoke in all colors of the rainbow and did pictures with the brides and their wedding party. It was a super fun way to do something different with their wedding photography and to celebrate love!
A Barn on Stoney Hill Wedding Reception
After the fun in town, we went back to the barn. This was my very first time shooting a wedding at the Barn on Stoney Hill. This Wisconsin wedding venue is simply gorgeous with a rustic chic feel. It had a huge, stunning deck wrapping around entirety of the barn with beautiful views of the fields and orchards. Inside the barn, the ceiling was so high, adorned with the most amazing chandeliers. They were oversized and totally unique, really elevating the style of the barn itself.
We did the grand entrance with Paul of All Occasions DJ Service out of Eau Claire. Dinner was provided by Billy’s Grille and Catering out of Bloomer, WI. Got a kick start off to the dancing and the party was underway! As we do in Wisconsin, it wasn’t long before the Shot skis were out on the dancefloor. Ann is a huge concert fan and she has a beer bong made from a plastic flamingo, known as a “flabongo.” Somehow, the iconic flabongo didn’t make it to the wedding reception! But luckily, someone rushed in and put together a double beer bong, so the tradition of the beer bong was preserved!
There was so much love throughout this day. Friends and family who were there truly supported Ann and Tressie’s love for each other. Everyone was super accepting and overwhelmed with love and gratitude. It was awesome to see that level of support and love for these two awesome women. Friends brought camping equipment, made a campfire, and continued the celebration late into the evening!
It was a super exciting, fun day. Really awesome to see friends support Tressie and Ann in their life together. Tressie, Ann, it was such a pleasure to be your wedding photographer. I wish you the best of luck in your life together as Mrs. And Mrs.!
