One of the hidden gems of West Central Wisconsin is Big Falls County Park.
Many people don’t realize we have waterfalls this close to Chippewa Falls, making this location one of the most unique portrait destinations in the region.
The sound of rushing water, beautiful rock formations, sandy beaches, wooded trails, and scenic river views combine to create a location that feels adventurous without requiring a long drive.
For engagement sessions, Big Falls offers a sense of exploration and romance. Couples can walk the trails, enjoy views overlooking the river, and finish their session watching the sun set over the water.

When clients envision classic Wisconsin scenery, Lake Wissota State Park is often exactly what they’re imagining.

One of my favorite aspects of Lake Wissota State Park is the sense of scale. The views across the water and rolling landscape provide an entirely different look than many traditional portrait locations.

Wisconsin State Parks require professional photographers to obtain a photography permit when conducting portrait sessions.
Currently, the permit fee is approximately $35 in addition to any vehicle admission fees required by the state park system.

The most popular timeframe for fall family pictures, senior photos, and engagement sessions is typically late September through mid-October.
Peak color can vary from year to year depending on weather conditions, but this timeframe generally provides the strongest fall color throughout the Chippewa Valley.
One of the biggest misconceptions about fall photography is that peak color automatically creates the best photographs. While beautiful foliage certainly helps, great light is often even more important.
