Why Most Senior Photos Look Good But Feel Completely Off

Ever look at a senior photo and think, " That does not feel like them?โ€

There is a difference between a photo that looks good and a photo that feels right.

Most senior photos fall into the first category.

They are clean. They are well-lit. They are technically solid. And yet something feels off.

If you have ever looked at a senior gallery and thought, โ€œThat is niceโ€, but it does not feel like the kid, you are picking up on something real.

The issue is not the camera. It is not the location. It is not even the editing.

It is the process.

Most senior sessions are built around efficiency. Get in. Get the shots. Move on.

Stand here. Turn this way. Smile like this.

It works. You get images.

But what you do not get is personality.

Your senior is not a template. They have their own way of showing up in the world. Maybe they are quiet. Maybe they are sarcastic. Maybe they are confident in a way that does not come out on command.

If we rush past that, the photos fall flat.

So we do the opposite.

We slow down just enough to let them settle in.

We talk. We joke around. We get past that first layer where everything feels a little awkward.

Because it always starts that way.

Then something shifts. The shift is something I always enjoy and see happen within the first 15 minutes of working together in front of my camera.

Their posture relaxes. Their expressions stop feeling forced. They start to show up as themselves instead of performing for the camera.

That is when the real images happen.

Those are the photos that feel like something.

Those are the ones that parents connect to, and seniors actually like.

If you want photos that feel like your kid instead of just looking like a senior session, the approach has to be different.

Letโ€™s build something around who they actually are, not what a template says they should beโ€ฆ feel free to click here to book a call with Andrew if you havenโ€™t yet, for a simple, information-filled time we can connect.
