6 Wedding Photography Standards I Follow
6 Wedding Photography Standards I Follow That Would Make Other Photographers Panic
Weddings are chaotic, emotional, and beautiful… and as a wedding photographer, I get to be in the middle of it all.
But the way I run my business? Let’s just say it might make other photographers clutch their cameras in horror. Here’s a peek at the standards I follow that keep my clients happy, keep my business professional, and keep me from nickel-and-diming my wedding couples.
1. I Don’t Charge Extra for a 2nd Shooter
Some photographers charge hundreds for a second shooter. Me? Nope. I don’t believe it’s fair to pass that cost on to my clients. If having a second photographer makes your wedding day run smoother, it’s on me… not you. Simple as that. Second, photographers are included in the top two collections because we are there longer and want to ensure the most coverage for my couples… It’s a win-win for everyone.
2. I Don’t Charge for Short Overtime
Weddings rarely run perfectly on schedule. If we go 15–20 minutes over, I won't add a fee. Only when it’s a full extra hour do I start the overtime conversation. Because let’s be real… you’re there to celebrate, not stress about the clock.
3. I Don’t Assume You Want Your Images All Over the Internet
Yes, my contract technically allows me to share your images. But your privacy matters. I carefully limit what I post… especially when kids are involved. Your memories, your rules. I feel it’s respectful not showcase your entire wedding day on my website.
4. I Don’t Complain About My Editing Queue Online
I know some photographers vent publicly about their workload or the stress of weddings. That’s not me at all. I keep my online presence professional and positive because my clients deserve confidence, not chaos. We have systems and workflows to make this align!
5. I Showcase a Variety of Weddings and Sessions
Each couple is unique, and I want my work to reflect that. By sharing multiple weddings and portrait sessions on social media, I show future clients the full range of what’s possible for their own day.
6. I Invest in Long-Term Gallery Storage
Your images are priceless, and I treat them that way. I invest heavily in external hard drives, backups, and secure storage to ensure your gallery stays safe for years to come. If something ever gets lost (knock on wood), I can replace it… no stress, no panic, just peace of mind.
Here’s the kicker: this service often disappears after a few years with other photographers. My advice? Ask about it. Because losing your wedding photos isn’t just tragic… It’s avoidable, and I’ve got your back.
These are just some of the ways I run my wedding photography business differently. They might make other photographers panic, but my clients? They get a stress-free, professional, and unforgettable experience.
Because at the end of the day, weddings are about the people in front of the camera who invest in quality, professionalism, and are confident in my team’s abilities, not the chaos behind it.
